How to sign a PDF without DocuSign, Adobe Sign, or any account

Most PDF signing tools want you to create an account, verify an email, and route the document through their servers — even when it's just you signing your own form. There's a faster way.

When you don't need a full e-signature platform

If you're just adding your signature to a PDF (offer letter, NDA, school form, lease), you don't need DocuSign's audit trail or Adobe Sign's enterprise workflow. You just need to drop a signature image on the right page and save.

DocuSign's added value — multi-party routing, reminders, certified audit logs — is real, but most personal signing doesn't need it.

How to sign a PDF in your browser, free

Open pdfvibe.app/tools/sign. Drop in your PDF. Use the Draw tab to draw your signature on a trackpad or touchscreen, the Type tab to render your name in a script font, or the Upload tab to use an existing PNG. Click on any page to place it, drag to position, then export. Shift+click to drop a date stamp.

Everything happens in your browser. The PDF and the signature image never leave your device.

Are e-signatures legally valid without DocuSign?

In the US, the ESIGN Act (2000) makes most electronic signatures legally equivalent to handwritten ones. The EU eIDAS regulation gives the same status to qualified e-signatures. Many countries have similar laws.

What matters legally is intent to sign and consent — not which tool you used. Whether the counterparty accepts your signature is a separate question; ask if you're unsure.

When DocuSign / Adobe Sign actually is the right tool

Multi-party agreements with routed signing order, regulated industries that require certified audit trails (real estate closings, some financial contracts), and high-volume sales pipelines where you need reminder automation. For everything else, a free browser signer is enough.

FAQ

Is signing a PDF in my browser legally binding?

In most jurisdictions, yes. Electronic signatures are recognized under the US ESIGN Act and EU eIDAS regulation. Whether your specific contract requires a certified e-signature provider depends on the contract and the law it's governed by.

Can I sign a PDF on iPhone without an app?

Yes. Open pdfvibe.app/tools/sign in Safari, drop in your PDF from Files, draw your signature with your finger, place it, and download.

How do I sign a PDF without Adobe?

Use a free in-browser signer like PDFVibe Sign, or the built-in Markup tool in macOS Preview / iOS Files. Neither requires an Adobe account or subscription.

Is my signature image safe?

On PDFVibe it never leaves your browser — no upload, no storage. With cloud signers, your signature is stored on their servers; check their retention policy.
